The pulsed power technology based research and development (R&D) activities are being carried out at this centre since 1997 with the initiation of the plasma focus (PF) facility. The PF is mainly a transient plasma producing device that makes use of self-generated magnetic field to pinch the plasma to a very high dense and high temperature. It is a rich source of various electromagnetic radiations, charged particles and neutrons. In addition, many interesting physical phenomena such as current filamentation, instabilities, hot spots, shock motion etc are being marked in this device. Typically low energy devices have been proven to be very convenient for the different industrial applications. Hence, this device is a promising tool not only for teaching of plasma physics but also for R&D activities.
